Alaska Health Fair in Alaskan Economy & Services Directory

Alaska Health Fair started in 1980 as part of the National Health Screening Council, a movement led by John F. Brensike. This movement identified a need for improved health screening and health promotion within the United States. The National Health Screening Council started with Health Fair organizations in all 50 states. Alaska Health Fair is one of two remaining original organizations. We began as the Chevron Alaska Health Fair Project, supported solely by Chevron USA. Throughout the years, more organizations have partnered with us to ensure quality health service and education efforts continue across the state. Alaska Health Fair began with eight health fairs serving Anchorage, Eagle River and the MatSu Valley. Today, we assist with more than 170 health fairs annually across the state. More than half of the fairs occur in rural areas, spanning from Barrow to Unalaska and Nome to Ketchikan. Approximately 12,000 Alaskans have blood screenings each year, with more than 70,000 people receiving health education through the use of interactive learning centers, exhibits, health screenings, demonstrations and literature. With support from thousands of dedicated volunteers, loyal partners and generous sponsors, Alaska Health Fair celebrates more than 25 years of health promotion throughout Alaska.
